Introduction

[This document should be written with the student as the intended audience. Write a short paragraph here refreshing their memory about the literature being studied. Bring out some of the most interesting aspects of the book. Finish with a rhetorical question.]

Task

[Describe the end result of the students' work. This could be any one of the following:

  • an alternative ending for the book
  • a revisiting of the setting or characters a long time after the end of the book
  • an alternative setting for the book
  • a description of how you would portray the contents of the book in some completely different way (e.g., turn it into a theme park, musical comedy, sitcom, screenplay, board game)
  • a parallel version of part of the work as seen from a different point of view

Process

<
  1. Begin by quickly scanning the book to refresh your memory of its contents.
  2. Study these links to help you develop ideas that go beyond the book.
  3. In your creative work teams, brainstorm some ways to accomplish the task. Here are the rules for conducting a brainstorming session.
  4. Divide up the task of completing the writing. Use members of another creative work team as critical friends to improve your drafts periodically.
  5. Present your new work to the rest of the class.

Evaluation

Describe to the learners how their performance will be evaluated. Specify whether there will be a common grade for group work vs. individual grades. You may want to have separate rubrics for individual and group work.

Conclusion

Put a few sentences here that summarize what they will have accomplished or learned by completing this activity or lesson.

You might also include some rhetorical questions or additional links to encourage them to extend their thinking into other content beyond this lesson. To foster the habit of lifelong learning, give them links to additional information here that they can pursue on their own.
